From Prototype to AX: How 2025 Changed Our 2026 Rackets

Every new racket starts as a question.

In 2025, we asked three.

They became:

  • Project Onyx

  • Project X85

  • Project Aero

Three different ideas.
Three different risks.
Three very different outcomes.

Only one became the future.

Phase One: Push Everything

Our 2025 prototype programme wasn’t about small tweaks.

It was about pressure-testing ideas properly - in real games, with real athletes, across every level.

We didn’t want “safe improvements.”

We wanted to know:

  • What actually moves performance forward?

  • What feels different vs what performs better?

  • What survives athlete feedback?

Project Onyx - Playing With Airflow

With Project Onyx, we explored drilling patterns.

Specifically:

  • How airflow moves through the racket

  • How drag affects swing behaviour

  • How hole configuration influences balance

We reduced airflow at the top of the frame.

What happened?

  • The sweet spot increased.

  • Drag increased.

  • The racket became more top-heavy.

  • It felt powerful through the hitting zone.

Some athletes loved it.

But across the board?

There wasn’t a significant enough improvement compared to a standardised drilling pattern.

It was interesting.
It was different.

But it wasn’t better enough.

So we parked it.

Project X85 - Maximum Stiffness

X85 was about feel.

We created:

  • A completely new mould

  • 18K carbon face

  • 13–15 density foam core

It became the stiffest racket we’ve ever made.

And some athletes absolutely loved it.

It was sharp.
Direct.
Unapologetically firm.

But when we tested it against the Pro X?

There wasn’t a meaningful leap forward.

It didn’t outperform enough to justify replacing what already worked.

So again - we stepped back.

Because “new” isn’t the goal.

Better is.

Project Aero - The Risk That Paid Off

Project Aero was different from the start.

Instead of just adjusting materials, we changed the way we build the racket entirely.

Traditionally, padel rackets are moulded in one process - frame, face, foam, all pressed together.

With Aero, we did something new.

We moulded the frame first.

Then we moulded the foam and face together separately.

Then we fused them.

We call it the Bi-Fusion Frame.

What the Bi-Fusion Frame Does

Separating the construction allowed us to:

  • Create a more consistent frame structure

  • Slightly reduce frame thickness

  • Increase surface area

  • Expand the sweet spot

  • Maintain face material integrity

Without changing the carbon layup.

It’s a different way of building a padel racket.

And it worked.

Athletes noticed immediately:

  • Larger sweet spot

  • Cleaner contact

  • Better consistency across the face

The response was overwhelming.

We released Project Aero.

It sold out in under an hour.

The Honest Feedback

But prototypes aren’t about ego.

They’re about listening.

The consistent feedback we received was:

“It feels amazing… but slightly hollow.”

Why?

Because in a two-part construction, the foam and the frame aren’t compressed together in the same way as a traditional one-piece mould.

That separation created:

  • Incredible consistency

  • But a slightly softer core feel

For some athletes, that was perfect.

For others - especially aggressive hitters - they wanted more punch in the middle.

More resistance.
More density.
More authority.

So we went back in.

Enter ProFoam

For the 2026 production range, we introduced a new core:

ProFoam.

A slightly higher-density foam that:

  • Reduces the hollow sensation

  • Increases central punch

  • Improves perceived solidity

  • Maintains the expanded sweet spot

It keeps what made Aero special.

And fixes what didn’t quite land.

The Birth of AX

The result?

The AX range.

Built on:

  • The Bi-Fusion frame construction

  • Refined balance

  • ProFoam core

  • Expanded sweet spot architecture

Now available in:

  • 3K

  • 12K

  • 18K

Each tuned for different athlete preferences in feel and stiffness - but all carrying the same underlying innovation.

What 2025 Taught Us

Not every prototype becomes a product.

Onyx taught us about airflow and balance limits.
X85 confirmed the ceiling of stiffness performance.
Aero unlocked a new construction method.

The AX isn’t a random release.

It’s what survived testing.

It’s what athletes responded to.

It’s what improved when we listened.

This Is How We Build

We test publicly.
We collect feedback properly.
We run mass prototype sessions.
We use our Prototype Feedback Programme to validate ideas under pressure.

Then we refine.

Then we release.

The AX range isn’t version 2.0.

It’s the result of risk, feedback, and proper iteration.

Project Aero sold out in under an hour.

AX is what it became.
